Yes, we are first and foremost in the business of IT support, but we also consider it part of our role to help our clients operate more efficiently and effectively. One way we do this is by offering insight and suggestions into new software, organizational tools, management tools, and more that could help your business operate more efficiently. Simply put, we’re in the business of helping your business operate better .

A great tool that we even use daily at PK Tech is a software product called Slack. Curious if it might be an excellent fit for your organization? We will hopefully answer that question for you in this blog.

What is Slack?

Slack is a communication channel best utilized to discuss internal affairs, manage projects, or casually communicate with colleagues. The goal of Slack is to save your company time. It does this by cutting out the necessity for multiple back-and-forth emails, long email threads, daily in-person meetings to approve small tasks, and more.

How can I use Slack to help my organization operate more efficiently?

5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Slack:

  1. Use different channels for different departments. Slack is most useful when initially organized with a plan in mind. Consider your various departments, who works together most closely, significant ongoing projects that might require their channel, etc. Channels essentially organize working “topics” so that everyone in the organization is only  notified about topics and projects that are relevant.
  2. Encourage employees to individualize their notifications. As noted above, the beauty of Slack is that you only need to be included in, and be notified for, topics and projects that relate to your role at the organization. Encourage employees to spend time initially individualizing their notifications for maximum efficiency.
  3. Integrate with other applications. One of the best features of Slack is its ability to integrate with countless other applications. An example: files from Google Drive can be easily shared via Slack.
  4. Use it for more than just messages. Slack now has voice call and video call features to operate similar to Zoom when needed.
  5. Learn shortcuts. Slack has several shortcuts that can make using Slack save you time daily. Familiarize yourself with the shortcuts specific to your computer.

If your organization is interested in integrating Slack into your operations but you’re unsure how to get started, PK Tech can always help.
