The Independent Firm

Your email gets you the archive, the library and the note.

For independent CPA firms. It's free, and nothing in it is for sale.

The archive

Every note I’ve sent, in full, with every link it named. Search it when a client asks about something you half remember reading.

The library

The part I’d open first. Every page carries the date it was last checked.

  • The vendor directory. Support numbers, status pages, and where the SOC 2 report lives, one row per software package your firm runs.
  • The Safeguards Rule, as a list of things that have to exist. One row per document or record, with the clause that asks for it.
  • A WISP is a calendar. The parts of the job that come back around on a schedule.
  • Policies you sign and file. The first is AI use.

The note

What’s new in the library, what changed that a firm owner should know, and one thing for home. I take no money from any vendor named in it.

Jordan Hetrick has spent 20+ years on the IT side of CPA firms. He started as the in-house IT manager at Price Kong, CPAs, took the firm paperless and remote ahead of most of the profession, and founded PK Tech with its partners. He’s owned it outright since buying them out. If something here applies to your firm, reply to any note and say so.
